Dates on IRS forms to file 1099A

Hello Everyone,

I have been putting together a simplified manual on how to fill out all of the forms to file a 1099A ( The 1099 OID, 1096, 1040V and 1199A). I did this with the intention of giving it to a sales person at a car dealership in hopes that if clear, simplified instructions were given, perhaps they would be more willing to sell a vehicle to me this way. I already got original IRS copies of all of the forms for the dealerships convenience.

Since it seems like people are saying that their 1099A's have not been processed by sending them to the United States Treasury, I plan on instructing the dealership to mail all of the forms to the P.O. Box listed on the bottom of the 1096 form. (if for some reason this isn't advised, please comment)

The one thing I am not sure of, is in the instructional videos it says that you should list the year on the forms as whatever the previous year was. So at the time of this post 2022 should appear in the upper corner of all the forms. But will the 1099A get flagged as incorrect if the year says 2022 in the upper corner, but Box 1 of the 1099A (date of acquisition) says 2023? Does this matter?

Any insight would be appreciated. I still have some tweaking to do to the document. I'm hoping to go to a dealership in the next two weeks to see if they are willing to file the paperwork for me. I intend to post updates and if this process is successful I will be finding a way to post all of my instructions somewhere online.

thanks!

Thank you so much for all of this. The 1041V sounds like it is necessary to make all of this work, but now looking at the difference between the 1040 V and the 1041 V I don't get why you would need the 1040V at all...

This is the 1199A I was referring to, I've read that people use it (or an 8888) form to expedite the process. There are a few different versions I've found but this is one:

You are right...no need for 1199A, and the 1041-V is what "I" prefer. I agree with you Audre! Thanks for the clarification. Form 8888 is a form that you can use to deposit your refund or part of it to a bank or other financial institution, or to buy up to $5,000 in paper series I savings bonds with your refund, and it is merely used to expedite disbursement of funds. :-)
